Candy Cane Bargello

I got the idea for this card from an issue of Stampin' Success, a magazine for Stampin' Up! Demonstrators. They had a feature on using bargello as inspiration for your cards. According to Wikipedia, bargello is a type of needlepoint embroidery consisting of upright flat stitches laid in a mathematical pattern to create motifs. The name originates from a series of chairs found in the Bargello palace in Florence, which have a "flame stitch" pattern.

The article's idea was to use striped paper to recreate bargello patterns on your cards. But why stop at vertical stripes? I had all these thin strips of diagonal candy cane paper left over from last years Christmas cards and thought they would be perfect for this project. Remember to never throw away your scraps! You never know when you'll need them.
